4 Secret Keys to Prayer for a Financial Breakthrough

Most Christians are in financial bondage because they don’t understand the power of their thoughts and words. They believe the wrong things and speak the wrong things. If this describes you, you’ll love these four secret keys to prayer for a financial breakthrough. 

I know what it’s like to get caught up in financial struggles. Years ago, when I faced insurmountable credit card debt (as in six-figure credit card debt), I learned that I had to stop talking about my financial problems and start talking about the financial breakthroughs God wanted for me. I needed to trust God’s plan for my breakthrough.

By the grace of God, I paid off all my debt without bankruptcy in approximately five years. Glory to God! Then, eighteen years ago, God called me to be a retirement planner and Christian financial coach, which I did up until a few years ago. Now, I get to empower others by writing books and blogging to encourage others who are experiencing what I went through. If God can do it for me, He’ll do it for you, too.

Each week, I receive countless messages from my devoted subscribers. Interestingly, the majority of them fall into one of two groups:

Group 1 messages express gratitude and appreciation for the faith-building content I provide on my blog and in my weekly newsletters, or they express faith and confidence that God will bless their finances.

Group 2 messages are from readers who tell me about their dire financial struggles. They list all the problems they are facing and how hopeless their situation is. 

When I read the group 2 messages, it breaks my heart to hear how much these precious souls struggle financially. I know exactly what they are going through because I was once in their situation myself. Financial stress is the most grueling stress one can ever experience. 

My challenge for you TODAY:

Be a doer of the Word, not just a hearer (James 1:22-24). We need to practice what the Word of God says to see His promises of provision manifest in our lives. 

What does the Word of God tell us to do when we need a financial breakthrough? It tells us to SAY what we want.

God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did; Romans 4:17

A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul. Proverbs 18:7

For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them. Mark 11:23-24

Whoever guards his mouth and tongue keeps his soul from troubles. Proverbs 21:23

To appropriate the promises of God for your finances, you’ll need to take your authority in Christ. In Matthew 18:18, Jesus gave us the keys to the kingdom because He gave us dominion over the earth realm: Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. I promise you God in heaven will allow whatever you allow on earth, but God will not allow anything you don’t allow.

Do you understand what this means? If you are tolerating financial struggles in your life, it may be because you are allowing them by not binding them on earth.

Here are the four secret keys to prayer for a financial breakthrough:

Key #1 – Get Rid of Fear and Unbelief 

You must take a stand against fear and declare, “I REFUSE to fear! My God did not give me a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7)

Notice how the Amplified Bible, Classic Edition puts it:

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control. When our emotions are out of control and we’re under stress, we are to have a “well-balanced mind.” We are to have discipline and self-control.

Key #2 – SAY Only What You Want

Some people have no idea that they can have what they say. If you will spend some time prayerfully studying what Jesus said about the power of the words that come out of your mouth, God will begin to reveal some things to you. Then you will change what you’re confessing so it lines up with God’s Word. That’s where you’ll find the power to change your circumstances. 

Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. Proverbs 18:21

Thou shall also decree a thing, and it shall be established for you so light will shine on all your ways. Job 22:28

The mouth of the upright shall deliver them. Proverbs 12:6

Key #3 – Be Careful What You Hear

Jesus said be careful what you hear (Mark 4:24). Most of the negative thoughts we think are from the devil. He drops thoughts of defeat, worry, and fear into your mind to discourage you. Don’t take the bait. Take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5). Faith comes by hearing and hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17).

That’s why I’m always reminding you to declare God’s Word over your finances. Make it a practice to listen to at least one faith-building message each day or read at least one faith-building message. You’ll find an inspirational one to start with HERE.

Key #4 – Praise God for the Victory Before You See It Manifested in the Natural Realm

Fear, worry, and complaining about your finances do not release faith. Do you know what releases faith? Praise and worship! So start praising God for your victory by faith right now before you see any physical evidence of it. The bottom line is this: when we align our thoughts and words with what God says. God’s angels go to work on our behalf. Referring to Psalm 103, Charles Capps explains how this happens: 

The angels were created as ministering spirits to minister for those who are heirs of salvation. (Hebrews 1:14) One of the ways they minister to and for us is by taking heed to our words when we are speaking God’s Words after Him. If we are giving voice to God’s Words of promise, then angels have an assignment to see to it that that promise is eventually fulfilled in your life.

These 4 secret keys will work in any area of life where you have a need. So again I say, be a DOER of the Word and not a hearer only. Speak life over your finances and your life. Stop complaining and talking about your problems. Jesus said to speak to your mountain, and it must obey you.
