Did you know that the concept of positive affirmations comes from the Bible? It’s true. God instructs us throughout the Scriptures to use our words to influence outcomes. For instance, look at how in Job chapter thirty-eight, He talks about commanding your morning:
“Have you commanded the morning since your days began, and caused the dawn to know its place?” (See Job 38:12)
In Job 22:28, we read, “You will also declare a thing, and it will be established for you; so light will shine on your ways.”
There’s also this one, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” (Proverbs 18:21)
Following God’s instruction over two decades ago, I made a decision to always use the power of my words to influence positive outcomes and co-create my life.
As a result, I can tell you there have been times I’ve manifested things in my life that only came to be because of the power of declaring God’s promises over my life.
You can move mountains when you declare God’s promises over your life with bold, faith-filled words. You can watch mountains of debt, sickness, conflict, relationship issues, and any other obstacle dissolve into nothing.
As an example, if I wanted to destroy a mountain of debt, I would declare Zechariah 4:7:
“Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain!”
To take it a step further, I would personalize it like this: “Who are you O great mountain of debt? Before Patti, you shall become a plain!” I would declare this daily until the debt was gone. Do this by faith, believing, and trusting in the power of the Word, and your debt will supernaturally come to nothing. I don’t know how it will happen or how long it will take. But do this by faith, and your words WILL eventually come to pass. That’s God’s promise!
“So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish the purpose for which I sent it.” (See Isaiah 55:11)
If you want to put the power of God’s Word to work in your life, here are my three favorite books to get you started:
1 – My number one favorite book on biblical declarations is Commanding Your Morning Daily Devotional: Unleash God’s Power in Your Life Every Day of The Year by Dr. Cindy Trimm. This is my all-time favorite devotional. I’ve recommended this to several friends and clients over the years. To give you an idea of how compelling it is, here’s an excerpt from February 3rd:
“YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR DESTINY
Stand your ground. . . .Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers.—EPHESIANS 6: 14–18, NLT
Do not be a victim. Call the shots and change your destiny. Be proactive and decisive as you declare God’s Word over your life. God has given you the promise that whatsoever you declare in Jesus’s name will be done (John 14: 13–14), so you can be all He intended you to be on the earth—a shining example of God’s goodness and love.
Father, there is more to me than meets the eye. You made me above and not beneath, the head and not the tail, and I will not live beneath my potential. In the name of Jesus I destroy every limiting belief that has taken root in my mind. I take authority over all destiny-altering activity. I break out of every form of bondage: emotional, psychological, financial, and spiritual. I will not let fear keep me from my destiny. I decree and declare that I will do everything You created me to do. Father, redeem the time the canker worm has eaten. Let every gift and calling You have deposited within me be released in its perfect time. In Jesus’s name, amen.“

2 – My new favorite book on the power of declarations is 150 Bible Affirmations for Women: The Language of Faith Will Change Your Life! by Rick & Isabella Pina. I recently picked this up, and I must tell you, reading it gets me so fired up for God’s Word. It’s loaded with faith-fueled biblical declarations for every area of life: Family & Children, Marriage & Relationships, Business & Career, Health & Healing, Walking in Divine Purpose, Soul Prosperity (my favorite chapter), and Success, Wisdom & Favor.
Here’s a snippet from the Success, Wisdom & Favor Chapter:
Affirmation #133 – Like Joseph, I prosper in every place and in every situation I am in, because You, Lord, are always with me. I experience referential treatment everywhere I go. You cause People to go out of their way to help me!
Affirmation #135 – I am not a self-made woman. I am a God-made woman. I enjoy divine favor daily. Favor can do more in a minute than labor can do in a lifetime. I receive countless things I did not earn! God’s grace and favor cause me to experience unearned and supernatural success daily and throughout each day.

3 – The first book that turned me on to the power of biblical declarations is The Tongue: A Creative Force – Charles Capps. I read this book almost two decades ago when I first learned about the power of our words. It made me stop and think about everything I said about my life. Because of this book, I began to use my words more intentionally to speak blessing over my life. After reading this book, I started declaring a list of scriptures over my life every day, and it drastically changed my life for the better. Mr. Capps explains why God’s Word has such power and how we must be diligent in using it. “God gave you the ability to use your tongue to create a better life by speaking words that are full of faith. The choice is yours, whether you will speak them or not.” The Tongue: A Creative Force is available on Amazon. (affiliate link)
