Dwelling on the Word of God Brings Financial Peace

Dwelling on God's Word brings financial pease

One of the most critical keys to transforming my relationship with money was committing to dwelling on the word of God. I figured if I wanted His help to get out of my mess (my six-figure credit card debt), I had better commit to doing things His way. I really had nothing to lose and everything to gain. So, I committed to spend quality time in God’s word every single morning for one, two, sometimes even three hours. I got up at 4:30 each morning because I wanted to give Him the first fruits of my time.

Joshua 1:8 tells us how to make our way prosperous and be successful in all areas of our lives, including our finances.

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

The word meditate comes from the Hebrew word hagah, which means…

…to ponder
…to study
…to imagine
…to muse
…to contemplate
…to reflect

By filling our mind with the Word of God, we are aligning our thoughts with the Truth. It is the Truth that sets us free. We need to be set free from worry and fear and renew our mind with faith. Faith is the doorway to receiving the promises of God.

By dwelling on the word of God day and night,

we learn to walk by faith, not by sight. We can become so consumed by the word of God that no negative circumstance, bad report, or late notice can phase us. Instead, we respond to bad news with bold faith and the truth, which is the word of God.

We walk by faith, not by sight.
We walk by faith, not by late notices.
We walk by faith, not by phone calls from creditors.
We walk by faith, not by credit scores.
We walk by faith, not by late charges.
We walk by faith, not by unpaid loan balances.
We walk by faith, not by paychecks.
We walk by faith, not by stress, worry, or fear.

Anything that does not align with the word of God is a lie from the pit of hell. We don’t allow lies to take up residence in our thoughts. We take our thoughts captive, no matter how compelling the physical evidence may be. We choose to put our attention on the promises of God, which are Yes in Him, and Amen in Him.

By the grace of God, I was able to pay off all my credit card debt (six-figures worth!) in approximately five years with NO BANKRUPTCY (you can read about my messy money story HERE). Today, I have a completely transformed relationship with my money. I give all the glory to God. I trusted His promises and waited on Him. It was extremely stressful at times. I had to be changed from the inside out. I had to do some serious work on my money mindset as well as my relationship with my sense of worth and I had to overcome the emotional side of money.

“If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.

“Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.

(Matthew 6:30-34 The Message)
