Your Relationship with Money

Did you know that your history and early experiences have a huge impact on how money shows up for you? Things that happened in your childhood influence how you manage (or don’t manage) your personal finances today.
Looking back, are you aware of those experiences that shaped your relationship with money?
Self-awareness is an important element of your financial success. Through self-awareness, you can uncover your core beliefs, which are the root cause of your behavior with money.
One of my favorite personal growth tools for cultivating self-awareness is journal writing. Especially when the writing is guided through journal prompts.
Grab a notebook and your favorite pen and write out your responses to the following prompts:
- What is your biggest fear around money?
- What would be the worst thing about that fear becoming a reality?
- What did your father model for you about money?
- What did your mother model for you about money?
- How do the first four questions relate to how you are with money today?
- What are you learning about yourself as a result of this journal exercise?
Self-compassion is one of the keys to overcoming the challenges you may face in your relationship with money. Give yourself a big dose of self-love and compassion, knowing you’re doing the best you can with what you currently know.
The relationship we have with money can be an ongoing journey of self-discovery and self-growth.
The relationship we have with money can be an ongoing journey of self-discovery and self-growth. It’s an opportunity to learn about how we truly feel about ourselves and the world around us.
Our relationship with money can be an extremely valuable tool; an opportunity to overcome the past and learn how to love ourselves more deeply and completely.
